Working small landlord · Software tester · Writing about rental tech since 2026

I manage a small portfolio of rental units alongside a full-time career — the same situation most readers of this site are in. LandlordTechLab started because I kept wasting evenings comparing software by reading marketing pages, and I wanted the kind of honest, hands-on answers that didn't exist. So I started building them myself.

Why I Built This Site

The landlord software market has a fundamental information problem: every comparison site is funded by the very vendors it ranks. "Best of" lists are paid placement in disguise, and pricing pages hide what tools actually cost after setup fees and paywalled features. I wanted a site where the answer to "which tool should I use?" is based on dated, reproducible tests — not on who pays the biggest affiliate commission.

How I Test

Every review on this site follows the same process, documented in full on our How We Test page: I create real accounts, run real workflows (rent collection, screening, accounting, lease signing), log dates and results in the Test Log, and verify every price against the vendor's official pricing page. I also run the tools I recommend — if I wouldn't use it on my own units, it doesn't get a top score.

My Independence Promise

Get In Touch

Questions, corrections, or a tool you want tested?

Editorial independence, in one line: every recommendation on LandlordTechLab is a dated, testable claim I can defend with the test log — and I will.
